Around 500 suppliers attended our annual trade show at the end of August – an event that saw us host both of our country’s top political leaders. Labour leader and new Prime Minster Jacinda Ardern came to our opening day and National leader Bill English to our awards dinner.
“Having guests of this calibre is a clear indication of the important role Countdown plays in the New Zealand community,” says Brett Ashley, Acting General Manager Merchandise. “While it was great to have both these leaders with us, the real VIPs were our suppliers. At Countdown we’re focussed on making Kiwis’ lives a little better every day, but we realise that this is something we can only do with the wonderful products from our suppliers. Their success and ours go hand in hand.”
During presentations to suppliers, Countdown shared insights into the KPIs for the business and what we do to measure our progress against those KPIs. The category review process is a key element of Countdown’s continuing efforts to fine-tune our offering to achieve the best results for all parties.
We also introduced our supplier training programme and the GS1 master data system.
On the second day, we had a massive trade expo, where suppliers introduced new and interesting products in their range to our team, giving them a clearer understanding of the market potential of these products.
As part of the Trade Show we held our annual gala dinner where top performing suppliers and team were honoured with our annual supplier awards.
“Hosting our suppliers and senior store team is a highlight for us,” says Brett. “We look forward to reaping the rewards of the new relationships forged at the event, especially in the lead-up to the crucial Christmas trading period.”
Expo captured in photo exposures
Thanks to everyone who contributed to our successful expo during the Countdown Trade Show. Our photographers captured some of the diversity.
